1.
Pei Qingyin was born into a family of scholars and grew up surrounded by adoration. At eighteen, her performance of "Dancing Swan" made her famous throughout Jing City. She became the youngest principal dancer in classical dance and was hailed as a beauty the likes of whom appeared only once in a century.
Suitors crowded the Pei family's doorstep, but no good news ever came. Just as everyone wondered what kind of man Miss Pei liked, word got out that she had been engaged long ago to the eldest grandson of the Xie family, Xie Huaijing.
A notorious playboy in Jing City.
People lamented that it was a shame for a fairy-like beauty to be matched with such a womanizer.
But on the day of the engagement, the man standing beside Pei Qingyin wasn't the charming rogue Xie Huaijing. It was Xie Yuheng, the powerful head of the Xie family, who rarely appeared in public.
2.
Xie Yuheng was renowned in the business world as a handsome but ruthless devil. His methods were merciless, and he was just as cold and restrained in matters of the heart.
Everyone said he was cold by nature, and that poor Miss Pei would be doomed to a lonely marriage if she married him.
Until one day, someone saw a suited man crouching in a villa garden in the suburbs of Beijing, helping the young woman on the swing put on her socks.
No one knew what he said, but she suddenly kicked him, irritation on her face. "Xie Yuheng, tell me, don't you love me anymore?"
The man held her ankle and smiled instead of getting angry. "Then how about I stay tonight?"
"What are you going to do?"
His fingertip gently brushed the ankle in his palm, his voice low and tender. "Let you find out just how much I love you."
-
No one knew that Xie Yuheng was born emotionally detached. The sole exception was that snowy night when he was sixteen, barely clinging to life. Someone took him home and cared for him tenderly. From then on, she became an indelible light in his heart, and he would stop at nothing to keep that light close.
