Rising to the Top in the Nineties

In her previous life, Ye Li was an ignorant, beautiful village girl. Her unscrupulous older brother and fiancé tricked her into leaving her poor, backward hometown, claiming they would find her a good job. Instead, they sent her to work at a hair salon in the big city. She was lucky: a crackdown happened just in time, and the police rescued her before anything bad could happen to her. Fuming, she refused to return to her hometown and stayed in the city, working as a nanny. A kind-faced elderly woman chose her to care for her son, who could no longer walk properly after a research accident. Before going home with the elderly woman, Ye Li imagined that Gu Liyuan would be dejected and dispirited, disillusioned and down on his luck. To her surprise, when the door opened, a gentle young man in a white shirt and black trousers looked up from his book. His scholarly air captivated her at first sight, and afterward made her feel so inferior that she didn't dare approach him. She turned down Madam Gu's suggestion that she marry Gu Liyuan, became her goddaughter instead, and remained Gu Liyuan's sister for the rest of her life. He taught her to read and write, and she cooked for him. He never married, and neither did she. Now that she has returned to the age of twenty, she doesn't want things to be that way again. * Gu Liyuan devoted himself to research and had no interest in romance. He expected his life to be a lonely, cold one, with only books for company. That was until the day a smiling girl with glossy black braids entered his field of vision. Like a pure camellia, she swayed in his heart. Theme: Whether life is going well or badly, live beautifully
