Yun Zhouzi is refined, gentle, and wise, yet in truth he is indifferent and knows nothing of love. That is, until he meets a sly old fox. At first, he thinks he has simply found a kindred spirit and close friend. But under the fox's thoughtful yet passionate advances, Yun Zhouzi gradually comes to understand love and accept it, and is led step by step back to the fox's den. Just then, however, the fox withdraws.
At first, Xuan Jiu thinks Yun Zhouzi is too otherworldly to care for worldly affairs. But the more time they spend together, the more he feels that this seemingly ethereal crane is even more cunning than a true fox like himself. Though he is the one who laid the trap, Yun Zhouzi navigates it with greater ease, while Xuan Jiu himself is hopelessly ensnared in the trap of love he set.
