Reason for entering the contest: The heroine, Pu Yin, goes from being a former Demon Lord to a minor ghost constable in the underworld overnight. After losing her memories, she works hard, starts Pu's Records, and makes a fortune. Through her own efforts, she changes the underworld's standing among the Three Realms, earns widespread fame, and receives praise from the Celestial Emperor. She keeps accumulating merit, climbs out of the ghostly realm's slump, and eventually becomes a renowned figure across the Three Realms once more.
The cheerful version:
Pu Yin was a modern office drone. After dying suddenly from working late, she ended up in the ancient underworld.
To her surprise, she didn't have to go to hell. Instead, she became an underworld civil servant with an easy job, a steady salary, and housing provided.
Even more surprising, this place was practically a business desert. Any random idea she came up with could earn her a pile of ghost money.
So before long, Pu Yin was not only counting money until her hands cramped, but indirectly benefiting all living beings, too.
In just five hundred years, she completed her merit and became the fastest ghost in the history of the Three Realms to ascend.
And then came the biggest surprise of all.
The foremost figure in the immortal realm, the handsome Immortal Venerable Fu Shuo, appeared and soon became her most powerful backer there.
Her immortal powers are weak? Fu Shuo will teach her.
She's in danger? Fu Shuo will save her.
She wants to visit the demon clan and see some handsome men? Fu Shuo will promptly deliver himself to her, along with a wedding that shakes the Three Realms.
The tragic version:
On her twenty-eighth birthday, office drone Pu Yin accidentally worked herself to death.
Her soul arrived in the ancient underworld, where she crossed the class divide and became a minor ghost constable.
The tragic part was that a ghost constable's salary was practically nonexistent, while everything in the underworld cost money. In the end, she was still a poor ghost.
Even more tragic, she had to follow Black and White Impermanence to the mortal realm to capture souls, where she saw a woman who looked exactly like her endure ten lifetimes of tribulation, each one more miserable than the last.
Most tragic of all, just when she had finally accumulated enough merit to ascend and become an immortal, she somehow attracted the foremost figure in the immortal realm: Immortal Venerable Fu Shuo.
Every time the Immortal Venerable treats her differently, the poisonous female immortals look at her with a little more murderous intent.
Pu Yin cries out to the heavens: Why is it so hard to be a human, a ghost, or an immortal?
