[Harry Potter] Intertwined (Fleur/Hermione)

"Why?" He knew what she was asking, but he had no answer. Even he himself couldn't understand the point of doing any of this. He had given up the chance to ask the Horcrux, given up the support of the Pure-blood families he had always sought, and had even given up killing her, Hermione Granger, the source of all these terrible changes. Tom stared at her eyes, glistening with unshed tears, but all he wanted now was to kiss her. Riddle took so long to answer that Hermione's already chaotic thoughts became even more tangled. She could no longer tell what was real and what was fantasy. Was the horrible snake-faced monster from the future him, or was it this handsome, upright young man before her? The former had destroyed her home and hurt countless of her friends; the latter had rescued her from a group of villains. She had wondered if this was all an elaborate act he had staged, but what happened afterward had gone far beyond anything she could understand. Her leg no longer hurt, and her body's functions had almost completely recovered to how they had been before tonight. It must have been Skele-Gro and a Strengthening Solution, perhaps with some dittany added, because when she had struggled just now, she noticed that the bruising on her wrists had faded, too. Tom Riddle had not only saved her, he had healed her. Hermione suddenly seemed to have lost her purpose, and became confused. Was the person before her really Voldemort? Was he the monster she was supposed to hate? She was baffled and slow to react, failing to notice in time as Riddle bent his head toward her once more.
