After breaking free of his seal, Bai Wei became the world's last fox immortal to cultivate a human form. He should have reached the peak of fox life and ruled the mortal world with a laugh.
To settle a debt of karma, Bai Wei lent Wu Xie his fox core to ease his pain and let him set out on his search for his Third Uncle without suffering.
Sharing a core made them two grasshoppers tied to the same string.
Bai Wei became Wu Xie's portable accessory, taken everywhere he went.
Wu Xie, meanwhile, became Bai Wei's monthly power bank for demonic energy.
Fortunately, it would only last three months. If they held on, they could get through it.
