A stone statue of a god, he thought.
"Fedya, you look like you're trapped inside a stone."
This man had no soul.
"But I want to bring the statue to life." How sincere his gaze was, how his words seemed coated in sugar.
"Let's be together. I'll take you back to the human world."
"Really?"
"Really. Give me your hand."
A lie.
My dear Fedya, do you know when a statue of a god is most beautiful? Of course, when it falls from heaven and shatters forever.
Break its holy wings of light. Make it tumble from its divine throne, its glory gone.
"All right."
Ah, got him.
