The story of Chen Qingyan, a Ming Dynasty eunuch, and Li Ruohe, a Song Dynasty court historian, arriving in the Tang Dynasty.
Li Ruohe: "The wild geese fly high, yet my beloved has not returned. A curtain of moonlight and breeze, and idle hours."
Chen Qingyan's thoughts: She's reciting a poem by Li Yu! How does she know Li Yu, too?
Chen Qingyan died in the Ming Dynasty at sixteen after sneaking a bite of food. He has now spent eight years in the Tang imperial palace's eunuch service. The Tang Dynasty isn't bad, at least if he works hard enough to become the emperor's confidant, he can call himself a subject instead of a servant.
The Tang Dynasty may not be so bad, but Li Ruohe often leans against the railing, lost in melancholy. Back when the Jin army breached the capital of Dongjing, Li Ruohe jumped from a tower to preserve her chastity. Afterward, she became a court historian in the women's quarters of the Ming imperial palace. Then she was granted in marriage and wed to Chen Qingyan.
Li Ruohe: His Majesty is extravagant and incompetent.
Chen Qingyan: Nonsense. What's wrong with His Majesty? You've never been a servant or gone hungry.
Historically inspired, but don't take the history too seriously (I'm scared).
Theme: Enjoy love and adapt to society.
