“Whoa, a mummy!!!” That was the first thing Fei blurted out at the sight in the room. There, on the bed in the huge room, lay a lone figure, its exposed arms and face entirely wrapped in white gauze. Its head was swathed in bandages, making its flamboyant blue highlights look all the more jarring.
Perhaps it sensed her astonished stare, or perhaps it was something else, but the mummy suddenly turned its head, meeting Fei’s curious gaze.
“What an evil-looking stare~” Seeing those cold black eyes, she couldn’t help blurting out her surprise. Then she suddenly realized something and, horrified, backed toward the wall, trembling as she pointed at the foreign mummy on the bed. “Y-you-you-you’re alive!!!”
(Don’t blame her. In Fei’s mind, if you didn’t have black hair, you weren’t Chinese.)
Wasn’t this floor the morgue?! Why was he moving?
“…” In response to her reaction, the mummy sent her an even colder look, tinged with mockery.
“Ah! It’s risen from the dead! It’s risen from the dead~~” Remembering the weird, bizarre ghost stories her roommate and best friend always listened to, Fei panicked. She straightened up and tried to run, but in her excitement she forgot there was a wall behind her and crashed straight into it. Her desperate attempt to escape nearly killed her instead.
As stars danced before her eyes, she still remembered another saying from the stories: “A ghost~ a ghost~ a ghost~ a ghost has blocked the wall~” And so, trembling, Fei experienced the first spectacular fainting spell of her life.
