[My new novel, Playing with Fire, is now available. My next book will be You'd Better Hide Me Away. Please add it to your collection!]
One stormy night, Lu Zhixia brought home a man she found.
The man had a head injury. Not only had he lost his memory, his intelligence seemed to have dropped to that of a five- or six-year-old.
He was timid and especially afraid of the dark. Whenever there was thunder and rain, or a night with the lights off, he would get scared and burrow right into Lu Zhixia's arms.
Seeing how delicate and handsome he was, Lu Zhixia couldn't resist teasing him. "Sweetie, say 'Mommy.'"
The sweetie obediently raised his hand. "Mommy, hug me."
And so Lu Zhixia happily became a mom, raising this man with painstaking care for several months.

Until one day, the man suddenly regained his memory and intelligence. Only then did Lu Zhixia learn that he was actually the big boss at her company's headquarters.
She had long heard that the big boss was cold and ruthless, decisive and merciless, and that one bad mood was enough to get you fired on the spot.
That night, Lu Zhixia came home and saw the man leaning against the doorway, smoking.
Through the thin veil of smoke, he turned his head and smiled at her with a mocking, bloodthirsty menace. "Mommy, you're home?"
Lu Zhixia, her legs weak as she leaned against the wall: "..."
Later, Lu Zhixia, who cried and called him Daddy every night to pay her debts: "I regret it now. I really, really regret it..."
