I'm a spirit fox who has just cultivated nine tails.
I've worked diligently, hoping to one day advance to a Nine-Tailed Celestial Fox,
but I never expected the day I gained my ninth tail to be the peak of my life.
"I worked so hard to become a nine-tailed spirit fox. It wasn't so I could become the spirit beast of some mere mortal!" I roared at the sky.
The old clan leader scoffed. "That's what you get for being unhygienic. You got blood on your core and couldn't even be bothered to clean it."
From then on, I began a life as a spirit beast playing two roles.
On one side, I was a deeply cherished little fox. On the other, I was a lowly maid with a loathsome appearance.
But the gentle kindness of this man, praised for being "quite handsome," was meant only for me. Gradually, I began to lose myself in it,
and even think that being his spirit beast wasn't so bad.
Until at last, he dragged me to the Immortal-Falling Platform,
and cut off all my tails...
I gave everything to protect everyone,
never imagining that, in the end, I wouldn't be able to protect myself...
After returning in someone else's body, I was no longer myself, and couldn't understand the sadness in his eyes when he looked at me from time to time.
"Why are you so good to me? Did you owe me something in your past life?"
"Maybe I did. But I'm not good to you because either of us owes the other anything. I'm good to you simply because I want to be."
"Then if one day you don't want to be good to me anymore, I'd be so sad."
"If that day ever comes, it must mean my three souls and seven spirits have been taken from me and I'm no longer myself. When that happens, you don't need to grieve for me. Just turn around and leave without hesitation. Don't let me make you suffer, not even a little."
"But no one's taken my three souls and seven spirits away. How could I ever be that carefree?"
"Enough, enough. Why worry about something that hasn't even happened? I've always been tough, and selfish to boot. No matter how sad I get, I'll be fine after a while. How could I ever let myself suffer like that?"
