[The Butterfly Lovers] Ma Wencai and Mary Sue

* "Mary Sue" is meant teasingly, since this is a self-insert fantasy.

* Writing this for my own enjoyment, indulging myself (Xiao Ma's beauty really does make people lose their heads).

* Written out of love: a brainless, fluffy sweet story. If it's not your thing, just click the X.

* I'm not very familiar with the history of the Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern dynasties. I've tried to stay true to the historical setting while following the drama's premise. If I've made any mistakes, I'll bow down and apologize to you all.

"The Master does not speak of the strange, the supernatural, or spirits."

Cui Buyu was a firm materialist, but life shattered her worldview: thanks for asking, she's in the Eastern Jin dynasty, brought back to life in someone else's body.

Before her accidental death, Cui Liuniang's greatest wish was to study at an academy. Cui Buyu has been given a new lease on life in her body, so naturally, she intends to fulfill her predecessor's wish.

So she disguises herself as a boy, borrows her younger brother's name, and heads to Hangzhou, where she enrolls at an academy called Nishan Academy.

Once there, Cui Buyu discovers that she hasn't just transmigrated to the Eastern Jin dynasty. More precisely, she's ended up in one of the Four Great Folk Love Stories, The Butterfly Lovers.

What can she do? The Butterfly Lovers is a tragedy destined to unfold in that era. Getting rid of Ma Wencai won't turn it into a happy family ending.

Still...

Cui Buyu looks at her roommate.

Isn't this Ma Wencai a little too handsome?
