Every Year, with You

She went to see a psychiatrist, but before they had even started calling patients, someone was already heading into the consultation room.

As patient number one, she blocked the door and said, "Please wait your turn."

Gu Shifang looked up. "Do you see a doctor in there?"

She replied matter-of-factly, "Whether there's a doctor or not, patients still have to wait their turn."

Gu Shifang pointed to the doctor's profile photo on the wall. "Do I look like him?"

She refused to look and insisted, "A doctor's relative should be even less entitled to cut in line."

He was about to speak when a colleague greeted him. "Morning, Dr. Gu."

Gu Shifang smiled at her. "Let me go in and change first, then they'll call your number."

"..." And just like that, she became his patient.

Later, when she went back to the hospital, she saw someone in a white coat and gold-rimmed glasses with a build like his. She went straight up to him. "Gu..."

A familiar male voice behind her cut her off. "I'm over here."

She had prosopagnosia. Even after multiple follow-up visits, she still couldn't pick him out of a crowd.

Gu Shifang didn't mind. He simply said, "It's all right. I'll be the one to recognize you."

"I'll be the one to heal you."
