The Ghost-Eating Mystic

Coming soon: Long-Lived Species. Blurb at the bottom. Mo Shengli died once. By most people's reckoning, that means she came back from the dead. In her previous life, she was heir to a Taoist tradition, and her death had been fated from the moment she was born. She knew it, and willingly gave her life for all living beings. But now that she had been given another life, everything from the past had vanished with her death. This time, she would live for herself. She crawled out of the ground, becoming something neither human nor ghost. Even so, she was determined to live. To catch ghosts and drive away evil spirits, and to get more ghost pills to eat, Mo Shengli returned to her old line of work, roaming haunted places everyone else avoided. She struck terror into the hearts of ghosts. One tragic story after another raised the question: were ghosts and monsters terrifying, or were human hearts even more frightening? She had decided to spend this life alone. Who could have known that a young man would fall from the sky, red-rimmed eyes and a tearful expression, timidly clutching her skirt and begging her to save him? Mo Shengli looked at a face identical to that of the person she had loved in her previous life. When he cried, the red mole at the corner of his eye turned just as red. Mo Shengli speared the evil spirit pursuing him and killed it in one thrust. Then she smiled gently and helped him to his feet. So his name in this life was still Huo Qingxiao. An inscrutable glint flashed in Mo Shengli's eyes. She took Huo Qingxiao by the hand and walked him home.
