For some unknown reason, after I died, I became the 'guardian spirit' of one of my surviving companions.
I watched him stake everything on revenge, watched him get taken in by the black-haired slime, watched him throw himself into the Black Mafia for the sake of a single word of approval.
I watched that man leave him behind, watched him covered in wounds. I watched him grow up, and watched him die.
After seeing his bones laid to rest, I broke through my limits for the first and only time and gave that black-haired slime the knife he'd always wanted. Then I disappeared.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back before it all began.
He was still alive, and so were our companions. Our little group had just formed, and we had just made a vow: "If one of us is hurt, everyone else will take revenge together."

Personal headcanons: 1. Ryunosuke Akutagawa's relationship with his companions isn't especially close, but it's solid.
2. The timeline begins four years before Dazai picks up Akutagawa. Akutagawa is already known as the "White-Haired Hound," but hasn't yet become obsessed with finding meaning in survival.
