White falcon Lan Zhan x squirrel Wei Ying, inspired by the animal world, unrequited love.
Excerpt:
A squirrel with a bad memory would never hear the end of it. Just as he was feeling dejected, a sudden gale swept down from the sky, knocking the dazed little squirrel off his perch. The fluffy ball rolled off the rock and hit the ground with a thud, tumbling head over heels.
The little ball of fur rolled upright, grumbling. Then he looked up and saw a white falcon standing quietly on the rock, its keen eyes fixed on him.
The little squirrel jumped in fright. The fur on his tail puffed up, and he held it in front of himself with his forepaws, hiding behind it as he peeked out. "M-Mr. Eagle, I-I was just passing by. Could you pretend you didn't see me?"
The white falcon was the ruler of the skies around here. Wei Wuxian had never seen one before, but he'd heard plenty of stories. He recognized it so quickly because of its unusual white feathers and pale, glassy eyes.
Wei Wuxian squeezed his eyes shut and clutched his fluffy tail, hoping the falcon hadn't noticed him and would hurry along.
Plop. Then another plop, and another. It sounded as though something was dropping onto the ground. The noise kept going, and his curiosity got the better of him. He peered out from behind his tail with one eye.
Wow, nuts!
His tail swished behind him, and he forgot all about being afraid. In three quick hops, he reached the pile of nuts and picked one up in his forepaws. It was still warm.
