Shen Wencai transmigrated into a book, and not into just anyone: he had become a man of poor character who, in the original story, married into the female lead's family and wed her older sister. But on their wedding night, drunk, he revealed his true nature and publicly humiliated his bride's entire family at the wedding banquet. Shen Wencai arrived at a particularly unfortunate moment: just as the original Shen Wencai was spouting off and announcing that he was going to consummate the marriage. With his hand hesitating on the door, Shen Wencai gritted his teeth and went in, doing his best to imitate the original. To his surprise, the female lead's older sister was acting strangely too.
Starting on hell mode, Shen Wencai went through quite an ordeal before realizing that if he wanted to escape his cannon-fodder fate and change his circumstances, he would have to pass the imperial examinations and enter officialdom. Studying? That was something he was good at.
