Li Su’s grandfather gets drunk and starts reminiscing.

He says that before the two of them were born, their parents joked that if one family had a boy and the other a girl, they would arrange a childhood engagement.

Li Su wrinkles her nose in protest.

Jin Rui remains expressionless.

Years later, the two get married. At the wedding, the officiant asks what brought them together.

Li Su pinches Jin Rui’s arm and says, “A childhood engagement. We didn’t have a choice.”

Jin Rui plays along with a nod. “Right. Not a single twist or turn. We’ve been close since we were kids.”
