This story is dedicated to my favorite and greatest detective, Sherlock Holmes.
Perhaps my admiration for him comes from only a general study of his life, the era he lived in, and the cases he solved. In my heart, he is the greatest figure in the history of detective fiction.
The reason I first wanted to write this story was something Holmes said in The Adventure of the Devil's Foot: “Watson, I have never loved. But if I had loved, and if the woman I loved had met with such a fate, I might have acted like our lawless lion-hunter. Who knows?”
What would it have been like if he had ever fallen in love?
