At the opening ceremony of Cecil Military Academy, the principal encouraged the new students to write their wishes on the Tree of Memories.

Everyone eagerly wrote about how they would give their lives for the Empire and so on.

Violet, however, wrote seven characters without a moment's hesitation: I want to die on the battlefield.

Years later, an explosion finally brought that wish within reach. Violet was ready to embrace death, satisfied at last, wondering whether she might see her dead comrades, teachers, and family on the other side...
