Young Xuanzang

A third-year college student who was content to coast through life unexpectedly transmigrates to the turbulent transition between the Sui and Tang dynasties. His father doesn't care for him, his mother doesn't love him, and he arrives in an age of constant warfare under an incompetent ruler.

Knowing he has no talent for either literature or martial arts, Chen Yi simply packs up and shaves his head to become a monk, securing the Buddha as his ultimate backer. From then on, he lives a wild and reckless life, becoming the little monk everyone at Pure Land Temple despises.

In the twelfth year of Daye, Emperor Yang of Sui makes his third trip to Jiangdu, where he encounters a host of ghosts blocking his way, something never seen before. The result is a terrible loss of life and devastation everywhere.

That year, Chen Yi is ordered by his master to leave the temple and undergo training. He vows to travel across mountains and rivers, experience every kind of love, and continue living his carefree, unrestrained life.

At this point, he has no idea that one day he will set out on a journey west and become the revered Tang monk admired by the world.
