Synopsis: On the first day after Gu Miaoniang, the daughter of Lin'an's prefect, gets engaged to the child prodigy Zhao Xin, she dreams that she's the wicked supporting female character in an imperial-exam power fantasy.

In The Imperial Exams Will Send Me to the Azure Heavens, the impoverished male lead uses help from a System to sail through the imperial exams, face-slap all kinds of villains along the way, and ultimately become a marquis and prime minister, marry a rich and beautiful woman, make his name in history, and reach the pinnacle of life. Everyone who ever opposed him meets a miserable end. And Gu Miaoniang is the most tragic of all the supporting characters. The book says she is vain and greedy, looks down on the poor, and abandons her childhood fiancé, the poor male lead, for a wealthier match. But later, the male lead takes revenge: her husband's fortunes collapse, and the whole family is sentenced to military exile. Gu Miaoniang shamelessly tries to rekindle her relationship with the male lead, but in the end she's forced into the government brothel, abused, and killed...

Gu Miaoniang shivers as she reads this. If she remembers correctly, the male lead has already entered the academy. He's about to make a name for himself for the first time at the upcoming annual examination, and the person he'll use as a stepping stone is her fiancé, Zhao Xin...

Zhang Yan caught the transmigrate-into-a-book trend, but she isn't the protagonist. She doesn't know how the story will go, nor does she have a golden finger, so all she can do is settle in and make a life for herself. She isn't jealous or envious of her cousin, the transmigrator who knows the plot and is making a name for herself. But if you use me as a stepping stone, don't blame me for fighting back!

Theme: No matter your family background or looks, a woman must make a good life for herself
