The story also pays tribute to, and pokes fun at, other films and fanworks. One worth mentioning is Mirrordance's Lord of the Rings AU fanfic series All Evil.

No theme, no purpose. The style imitates popular fiction, and the setting is thrown together from whatever comes to hand. The title comes from the Coen brothers' film Blood Simple.
The good thing about an AU is that you can still follow the story without knowing the original. Every now and then, it might just seem a little absurd... Also, forgive the mix-and-match names and surnames that ignore their origins.
