Many years later, when audiences look back on the years when idol groups flourished, they will refer to the young people who were active at the time as the "golden generation."

As one of the key figures who could never be left out of any account of that era, Qi Luyao is still blissfully unaware of all this at his audition for the talent show The Road to the Stars.

A trainee at an unknown company on the verge of bankruptcy, with no fanbase and no preferential treatment from the production team, Qi Luyao has only one goal as he waits backstage for the first-stage performance.

"See that empty spot at the top of the pyramid?" He turns to his three teammates, then breaks into a grin. "Let's get out there. If we can get some screen time, that's a win."

1. A 101-style talent-show story, set in a fictionalized entertainment industry, and covering roughly the group's time together until it disbands. It's not realistic, or rather, some parts are overly idealized.
