Borderland Retirement Plan

The full story will be locked behind a paywall on September 7. If you haven't read it yet, hurry and catch up. Preorder: Human-Shaped Black Trigger, pairing: Xun To escape his pursuers, Zhang Xunye hid aboard an expedition ship belonging to the Border Defense Agency, then fell asleep. He hadn't expected that, although he was using a chameleon's ability, he wouldn't be detected by radar. Instead, a guy whose ears had been enhanced by a side effect heard him sleeping and gave him away. So the side effect that counters his own must be an enhanced-senses side effect, right? Since the two sides had once made a pleasant deal, this "invasion" never escalated into a tense confrontation. In the end, they cheerfully took him back to Mikado City as a Neighbor, and then he just stayed there. Bingchuan: "There's a Neighbor over at the Tamakoma Branch, but we don't have one here. Doesn't that seem a little unfair?" Zhang Xunye, who had just been KO'd for the third time by the top player controlling his character, suddenly shuddered and almost crushed his game controller. Bingchuan put an arm around Zhang Xunye's neck. "Hey, how about joining our team?" He counted it out on his fingers. "It's peaceful here, so you won't have to go into battle all the time, and you definitely won't have to work for your enemies. You can even get an A-rank salary. If you don't have anywhere to go, why not join us? What do you say?" "W-who says I don't have anywhere to go!" Zhang Xunye retorted instinctively, chin raised. But he was tempted. Warnings: * The original has so many details that my tiny brain can't remember them all, so there are definitely going to be plot holes. Feel free to point them out. If they don't conflict with my main plot, I'll fix what I can. * A single-series derivative work. The pairing is that fly-eyed Bingchuan. * Xunye is Chinese, but he was captured by the Neighbors a long time ago. * When I opened preorders, this was a crossover with other works. Later, when I could serialize it as a single-series work, I stopped crossing it over. Unbookmark it if you like. The blurb was screenshotted on 6-2. Theme: Having experienced war is what makes peace precious.
