A Hundred Years of Wedded Bliss

[Next up: "Pretty Fool," a story about an elder brother and his younger brother's wife. Please add it to your collection!]

As a teenager, Ye Mi was thoroughly ordinary. She loved reading romance novels and imagined herself with the school's most popular guy, Huo Xinglou, in her diary.

Somehow, the diary got out, and eventually ended up in Huo Xinglou's hands.

That very day, Huo Xinglou had someone bring Ye Mi to him and confronted her, interrogating her word by word like a criminal.

Ye Mi knew she was in the wrong. Just then, her parents divorced, so she moved away with her mother.

She thought she would never see Huo Xinglou again, but on the very day she changed jobs, there he was.

Huo Xinglou glanced at her resume, gave a cold laugh, and then appointed her as his personal secretary.

Ye Mi was sure Huo Xinglou wanted to kill her to silence her. She pleaded, "Mr. Huo, I'm sorry. I was young and foolish back then. I didn't mean to do it."

She looked up and met Huo Xinglou's gaze. He wore a faintly amused expression. "What was it called again? 'Happily Ever After,' right? You sure made up quite a story. Go on, keep writing. Make sure you give it a proper ending."

"Pretty Fool"

At twenty-eight, Huo Yilou was suddenly told he had an arranged marriage from childhood. The other party was named Mu Yan.

Huo Yilou had a terrible impression of Mu Yan. He could sum her up in four words: pretty fool.

One night, Mu Yan got lost while driving and called Huo Yilou for help, her voice close to tears. "Huo... Huo Yilou, come save me, I'm lost."

Huo Yilou checked the time. Three in the morning.

"Where are you?"

"I... I don't know QAQ"

Huo Yilou: "..."

Huo Yilou blew up. "Are you out of your mind? You drove around until you got lost at three in the morning."

But he couldn't just leave the pretty fool stranded, so Huo Yilou had no choice but to drive over and pick her up.

When he got there, Huo Yilou gave her an earful.

Mu Yan listened with her head bowed, looking pitiful. Only at the end did she murmur, "I... I bought you a cake. I was going to give it to you, but... even though it's past midnight and your birthday is over, happy birthday."

Huo Yilou thought he was even more of a fool. He'd fallen for a pretty fool like her.
