The Rouge-Bedecked Bride

Miss Yan Jiao was spoiled rotten as the daughter of a wealthy family. At fifteen, she discovered she had been switched at birth. When the real daughter returned, Yan Jiao went back to live with her biological parents.

Her biological father was a poor scholar in a small town. Her mother had died young, and she had a stepmother with a younger brother in tow. On the way home, her father died suddenly after getting drunk, so once she arrived in town, Yan Jiao had to live with her stepmother.

Her stepmother thought she was too expensive to keep and married her off to a butcher for five taels of silver.

Everyone in town said Yan Jiao was beautiful but ill-fated, with a young lady's temper but no young lady's destiny. They said she was cursed to bring death to her parents and would bring the same misfortune to her husband's family. But the butcher bought a pork shop for her and opened a cosmetics shop for her, while his relatives gossiped that Yan Jiao was a dangerous beauty, a bloodsucking demon.

They never expected that her cosmetics shop would make a fortune in its first year, then expand into the county seat.

Her husband's family also found him a position as a military officer in the county, and his career took off from there.

A sweet, cozy historical romance about a happy married life. Don't hold it against the male lead that he's a butcher. He's handsome, dotes on his wife, and will make something of himself.
