A very, very long time ago, thousands or tens of thousands, perhaps even tens or hundreds of millions of years ago, a monster appeared somewhere between heaven and earth. No one knew when it was born, where it came from, what it was called, or what creature it was descended from. All they knew was that it was hideously, hideously, hideously ugly, so ugly that gods, immortals, humans, demons, monsters, ghosts, and even beasts refused to claim it as one of their own.
