Sang Dusui, the Qing Shui Sword Sect's direct disciple, has white hair and golden eyes, and is as beautiful as a celestial being. His dazzling reputation is unmatched throughout the cultivation world.
Everyone knows that the Qing Shui Sword Sect cultivates the ruthless path, yet people seeking to become Sang Dusui's cultivation partner still come in an endless stream.
But Sang Dusui is playful by nature. Whoever comes along, he accepts them, and though he refuses to become their cultivation partner, he calls every one of them his "good big brother."
The sect leader, Sang Yu, is furious. He scolds Sang Dusui for losing his Dao heart and being incapable of reaching the Great Dao, and tells him he might as well leave the sword sect and find somewhere else to go.

With help from a mysterious benefactor, he breaks the formation Sang Yu set up and flees Sword-Testing Mountain in the dead of night.
The mysterious benefactor traps Sang Yu in an illusion for seven days and nights. By the time Sang Yu gets out, Sang Dusui has vanished. Panicking, he has no choice but to ask the old ancestor, who is in secluded cultivation, to intervene.

Sang Dusui makes it safely down the mountain. Feeling he ought to show some gratitude, he readily promises his benefactor that he will do one thing for him.
The benefactor looks troubled and hesitates before explaining that someone has cursed him. He has too much spiritual energy in his body, and if he does not release it, he will soon explode and die.
Hearing of his plight, Sang Dusui is worried but has no idea what to do. So he tells his benefactor to suggest something himself, and promises to agree.
The benefactor says, "Become my cultivation partner. Once I break the curse, our debt will be settled."
Sang Dusui looks at his face: the man has the striking beauty of an immortal. Then he thinks of the profound cultivation that allowed him to trap Sang Yu. He doesn't hesitate for long before agreeing.
"I left the sect, so my master will surely ask the old ancestor to come and catch me," Sang Dusui says. "I can be your cultivation partner, but let's get one thing straight. If the old ancestor comes after us, we'll each have to run for it. Even if you get caught, don't you dare tell him where I am."
The benefactor smiles. "Why are you so afraid of the old ancestor?"
Sang Dusui sighs. "You wouldn't understand. He wants to eat me."
