During the Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern dynasties, the realm was divided among ten kingdoms. The Li Kingdom led them all, while the Qiang Kingdom was the weakest. The Luo people were ruled by women. The Snow Kingdom was small and isolated from the outside world. The Qin Kingdom, known throughout the ten kingdoms as a land of music, was famous for its guqin, sheng, and xiao, and ranked third. The Yang Kingdom was famous for its weapons, was on friendly terms with the Li Kingdom, and ranked second. Beyond the ten kingdoms, three mysterious clans lived hidden among ordinary people: Cangyun Mountain was renowned for music and allied with the Qin Kingdom; Taoli Pavilion stayed hidden from the world and cut off all contact with outsiders; and Yunxi Valley was famous for medicine and had no dealings with the outside world.
