All it takes to keep him is food and lodging. The only problem is that he loves to have fun and is far too wild. When monsters take the bait, he doesn't fight them. He teases them instead. Gu Ran sprinkles cumin on the barbecue and urges Xie Xianlan to hurry up. "If you're too slow, there won't be any left for you." - From that day on, Gu Ran goes from prey to hunter. He uses himself as bait to lure monsters in and catch them in the act, racking up work points. Monsters everywhere condemn him for it. One day, a powerful monster sees Gu Ran alone and, emboldened by its own wickedness, roars as it charges at him. "I'm gonna kill you!" Gu Ran snaps his fingers. "Got a job." Employee: "???" - And so Gu Ran becomes a low-level intern at the Supernatural Affairs Bureau, but no one thinks he'll survive three days. Forget killing the ghost that cursed him. Even a little monster in the sewers could tear him to pieces. But before his internship is even over, Gu Ran rockets up the rankings. Top of his cohort, outperforming the instructors, fast-tracked to a permanent position... Everyone is stunned, until they see footage of Gu Ran on the job. Blood blossoms at Gu Ran's fingertips. Ghosts lurking in the dark swarm out, nearly drowning him. But in the blink of an eye, their faces turn to terror. From the shadows at the alley entrance, Xie Xianlan lazily yawns and straightens up.
