Ming Zhan, the top third-place graduate of this year's imperial examinations, is sent away from the capital for three years to serve as magistrate of Linze County.
On his way to take up his post, he comes across a little girl being chased by several burly men with clubs.
The girl is dressed in rags and covered in dirt as she cries, but her eyes are bright as black pearls. Ming Zhan, whose heart has always been as cold as iron, suddenly feels pity for her.
He pays a large sum to buy her, then has a servant bring her back to his residence to work as a maid.
Three years later, his term of service ends, and he returns to the capital to report on his work.
Among those waiting outside the Ming residence is a young girl, with bright eyes and pearly teeth, standing tall as she gazes steadily at him.
He looks up at her. She blushes and softly calls, "B-Big Brother."
Later, Ming Zhan realizes that the girl loves him, and that he loves her too.
Jiaojiao has always been obedient and sensible, afraid her parents would abandon her. Yet she is still sold to the Yuyan Brothel.
She secretly makes inquiries, and someone tells her that a girl who enters that place has no chance of making it out alive.
Terrified, Jiaojiao flees in the middle of the night. Before long, people are chasing her. She runs in tears, utterly despairing.
Then she spots a carriage. Her foot slips, and she lands face-first in the dirt.
She looks up in panic and sees a hand reaching out from behind the carriage curtain. Then she feels as if she is seeing an immortal descend from heaven.
"Gentlemen, please show some mercy."
The immortal takes her to the Ming residence. She is adopted by his mother, given a new name, Ming Yue, and becomes his adopted younger sister.
She waits eagerly every day, longing for him each night.
At last, she sees her immortal again.
He remains her immortal, but he is also her brother, and her husband.
A little note:
Nothing for now. I'll add something later. The cover is from BS Gugu~
I'm still deciding on the title. Another option is "Ming Yue and Jiaojiao."
Theme: Learn to appreciate kindness and be grateful.
