The Bandit's Captive Beauty

Mei Qingjian was born into a family of military commanders. Her father was framed and died on the battlefield, while her older brother was exiled and disappeared. By chance, she was abducted and taken up a mountain. The bandit chief had clear, handsome features and was tall and dashing, nothing like the leopard-headed, ring-eyed brute with a swallow's chin and tiger's whiskers described in the stories. He was quite considerate toward her, though he was a little clueless.

When she caught a cold, the chief said, "Drink more hot water."

When she tried the latest bitten-lip makeup, the chief said, "You haven't applied your lipstick evenly."

When she asked for his opinion, the chief gave her the three-part answer: "Whatever you want. Either way is fine. Looks good."

Mei Qingjian held her forehead and patiently lectured him. "You'll never find a wife acting like this. You should do it like this..."

Later, her brother returned to court to root out the treacherous officials. She came down the mountain and reclaimed her place as a young lady who always got her way, only to be swept onto a horse by a man who appeared on the road and swept her off her feet with just a few words.

Looking at the charming husband she had trained herself, she found she was a little reluctant to give him away...
