Superstition in the Age of Reform

"This is not a supernatural story! This is not a supernatural story! This is not a supernatural story!" Xu Leying had the misfortune to be caught in the apocalypse, and died. The good news: She wasn't completely dead. Instead, she transmigrated into a story set in a bygone era. The bad news: She was still pretty much as good as dead. Her fiance's family were hated capitalists, her adoptive mother was a famous local medium, and Xu Leying herself was a little medium who had inherited her mother's craft. Any one of them was enough to make them targets for a reckoning. Xu Leying: She'd be better off just dying for good. But since she wasn't completely dead, she could only try to find a way to survive this sure-death situation. Then... she might as well start by pretending to be a spirit medium. +++ Something strange had been happening lately in Old Well Village, where the revolutionary movement was in full swing. For example, the Lao Yang family, who'd made their fortune through the movement, had their house vanish overnight; currents appeared out of nowhere by the river and swept people into the water; and someone could jump up and down from a tree more than thirty meters tall without a scratch... Worst of all, the statue in the mountain god temple deep in the mountains, which had been smashed up, could actually speak! The villagers of Old Well Village: ... What do we do? This is terrifying! Xu Leying: What do I do? This is kind of addictive! Theme: Keep striving to live, even when backed into a corner
