The swallows return, the blossoms fade; spring has passed, as it always does, before Qingming. The same longing fills our hearts, yet our feelings differ. I still remember, beneath the shadows of green peach blossoms, our vow to be together for three lifetimes.
On black-lined paper, delicate red seal script gleams like stars scattered across the spring sky. “Let us not betray our secret promise. Let heaven witness our solemn vow.” When the words were done, a dewdrop fell, dampening the silver screen.
This poem refers to a well-known Chinese story and its “vow to be together for three lifetimes.” The title of this story takes its meaning from the line, “Though our bodies may differ, our love will endure.”
