Chronicles of Hero Island

In Norse mythology, there’s Valhalla, where Odin stocks up on handsome young men. Sorry, I mean, it’s where the heroic spirits of humans are kept as cannon fodder for the future battle of Ragnarok.

The Greeks have an Island of Heroes, which serves much the same purpose: a place to gather human heroic spirits... But in a place where divine wars break out so often, the Island of Heroes is basically a teahouse where human heroes can gather after dying in a divine war, being caught in its crossfire, getting inexplicably dragged into some dispute between gods, or drowning in a bucket of jealousy, and so on.

So we have to face a problem: unlike Valhalla, which regularly sends its residents out on missions, Greek divine wars happen every now and then and kill thousands at a time. Sooner or later, the Island of Heroes is bound to run out of room.

But clearly, we’ve never seen that happen... So why not? SS-LC has finally solved the mystery for us. As it turns out, the Island of Heroes’ real purpose is... to be a transfer station.

That’s right, a transfer station. Everyone comes back for tea and a chat after each fight (though we know Specters don’t get that privilege: when they die, they just return to the Underworld to keep working). Then, when they’re needed again, they set off together and reincarnate to fight another divine war...

So it’s always the same people fighting each other, though not all at once: at least three teams take turns. And those who take part in the Holy Wars don’t have children even if they survive, so the population doesn’t grow...

With the above musings in mind... please read on.
