Never Leaving the Green Mountains

Xue Yongjiu and Xue Changluan are young lords of the Guixu clan. They have been together since birth. When they come of age, one of them will become the Divine Chosen of the Guixu clan, and the other will die at the Divine Chosen's hands.

Xue Changluan leaned against the window, idly playing with the sharp dagger in his hand. Moonlight streamed through the window and fell across him.

Yongjiu...

Xue Changluan went to the bed and looked down at Xue Yongjiu's sleeping face. If the one who lost the competition would lose his life, would you still say I was the most important person to you?

He bent down and held the dagger against Xue Yongjiu's neck, slowly pressing it down. Its sharp edge sank into the flesh. Just before it could cut through the skin, Xue Changluan stopped.

Forget it. Remembering the last time Xue Yongjiu had beaten him badly, Xue Changluan pulled at the corner of his mouth. He lay back in his own place and closed his eyes.

A while later, Xue Yongjiu opened his eyes silently on the other side of the bed. Beneath the silvery moonlight, the gazes of the two people lying with their backs to each other seemed a little cold.
