Synopsis

Just after Jin Shi returned with his master from the small village in the south where they'd been exiled, back to the capital he'd been away from for nine years, he heard all sorts of rumors.

According to the rumors, he and his master had been summoned by the new emperor to check and suppress the new Imperial Preceptor. They were the new Imperial Preceptor's sworn enemies, and their arrival would soon plunge the Great Mu Dynasty into a bloody storm!

At first, Jin Shi didn't take it seriously. Rumors were just rumors, after all. Who was the new Imperial Preceptor? Why, he was the childhood friend who used to play house with him and happily let Jin Shi be the "bride"! They'd even seen each other naked as kids! How could they possibly be at each other's throats? No way!

So, when he saw the new Imperial Preceptor in the palace courtyard, with its red walls and golden tiles, he waved enthusiastically and called out with confidence, "A Fang, wifey! Do you remember me? I'm back!"

Then he watched his "A Fang, wifey" stroll toward him. The tall figure grew closer and closer, and by the time he reached Jin Shi, Jin Shi had to tilt his head back and look up at him instead of meeting his eyes.

Jin Shi's smile froze. He clearly remembered Liang Fang being shorter than him!

Liang Fang looked expressionlessly at the man before him. He grabbed Jin Shi's arm, lifted his chin with his other hand, and coldly said, "For showing disrespect to the Imperial Preceptor, arrest him and take him away."

And so the rumors escalated:

"The new Imperial Preceptor is narrow-minded. He's using his power to imprison his rival and secretly have him killed!"

"The new Imperial Preceptor is making an example of him, so every formation master who questions him will know what happens when they show disrespect!"

For a time, the formation masters of the capital lived in fear.

Meanwhile, in the Imperial Preceptor's residence, Jin Shi, who was supposedly about to be killed, stared in bewilderment as his old friend took out a box. Inside was another box, and inside that was a brocade pouch. Inside the pouch, a yellowed piece of paper had been carefully rolled up. Liang Fang unfolded it for him, revealing a crooked line of writing:

"Today A Fang was my bride. In the future, I'll be A Fang's wife. - Wang Jinshi"

...There was no way handwriting that ugly belonged to anyone but him as a child.

Before he could ask why Liang Fang had kept this thing, Liang Fang calmly said, "I've already sent someone to Teacher Yuan to ask for your hand in marriage. In a couple of days, the Imperial Astronomical Bureau will calculate an auspicious time and send it over. Get ready."

He sounded as calm as if they hadn't been separated for ten years, but only ten days.
