1. Being a Fate Immortal is a high-risk occupation. Ming Yu, the third Fate Immortal, died on the battlefield between immortals and demons and was reborn as a mortal, a good-for-nothing unable to cultivate. A fortune-teller even predicted she wouldn't live past thirty.
Han Mingyu therefore became a spirit washer. Spirit washers can slay demons and monsters, but they must absorb their spiritual essence to extend their lifespans, with the side effect of worsening their karmic burden.
Han Mingyu couldn't bring herself to devour spiritual essence and destroy the future of another living being, so she accepted a mission from Lord Yunhua.
The Thousand-Ring Chime bears an Eight Trigrams diagram and comes with eight tasks: North, Heaven and Qian; Northeast, Wind and Xun; East, Water and Kan; Southeast, Mountain and Gen; South, Earth and Kun; Southwest, Thunder and Zhen; West, Fire and Li; and Northwest, Lake and Dui. Complete them, and the deadlock can be broken.
Only later did Han Mingyu learn that, before the Fate Immortal fell, demonic thoughts had corrupted his mind. Now, hidden in the darkness, he was quietly making his move.
Just how small and helpless was this world...
2. Han Mingyu was captured by a great demon and taken to the altar of sacrifice. She was tortured there and witnessed bizarre, grotesque visions, absurd and sinister.
At the moment she nearly died, she unexpectedly discovered that one of her innate traits could break the karmic curse on spirit washers.
Then she had no choice but to go to another world.
3. The mortal senior brother, with his gentle, refined Jiangnan manner, had always protected Han Mingyu and respected every choice she made.
He hoped the four seas would be peaceful and the six realms at rest, that living beings would no longer suffer the pain of war. He also hoped his junior sister would stop shouldering every burden alone, trapped in hardship and loneliness.
He and she each had their own Dao, and their paths brought out the best in each other.
