Bai Feng [The Legend of Qin]

In the Warring States era, where human lives are worth no more than grass, how can a transmigrator take control of his own fate? Bai Feng: Never bow your head to fate. Raise your chin and chase the light until you become the sun. * Mo Ya once asked Bai Feng: Why don't you use a sword? After all, swords are the most common weapon, and the easiest tool for an assassin to get hold of. Bai Feng: I hear the sword is a gentleman's weapon. I was born poor and rose from humble beginnings, with nothing tying me down. I'm like a wild weed by the roadside. Someone like me cannot afford a ritual weapon. Silver needles and feather blades are sharp enough for killing. Wei Zhuang scoffs: You always stand straight, your expression concealing a hint of arrogance, and you bow to no one. You have refined tastes, love elegant music, are picky about food and where you sleep, and have a way of thinking that is unlike anyone else's. When discussing the Hundred Schools of Thought, you are aloof and look down on everyone. And you call yourself one of the poor and lowborn? Mo Ya: Maybe he chose the codename White Phoenix because he felt something about his identity. Someone like me is only fit to be a crow bringing death. Han Fei: ...Though Bai Feng has little respect for the powerful, Brother Wei Zhuang, Brother Mo Ya, perhaps he wasn't lying about his origins? Bai Feng: Crows are real, living birds. Phoenixes are just absurd legends that will never come true. I'm merely a shadow that never existed in history. The transmigrator truly believes this, but only discovers at the very end that this is no place of historical fact, but a fantastical version of the Warring States era, complete with magic, technology, the all-knowing Han Fei, and a timeline that merges the Qin and Han dynasties! Bai Feng, still unaware of the truth: If the Strategists can switch careers from masters of verbal sparring to sword saints who fight with physical force, then an assassin like me changing careers seems to fit the times, too? Bai Feng: Time for the greatest resignation ever! * A Heavenly Journey: The Songs of Chu, The Legend of Qin, and Empty Mountain Birdsong fanfic. Some characters are based on the Empty Mountain Birdsong novel. Bai Feng is a transmigrator. No pairing; he and Nong Yu share a bond of friendship, he does not fall for Chi Lian, and Mo Ya survives. * I want to write an idealist who gives everything he has to survive and refuses to yield to convention, even in the Warring States era. I chose to make him transmigrate as Bai Feng because the white phoenix was once called the swan goose. How can sparrows understand the aspirations of the swan goose? Bai Feng: If you want freedom, seize fate by the throat! Theme: Never bow to a screwed-up fate.
