That year, Bai Xi was seven. She and several other children were trapped in a room with walls on every side and only one door. The other children huddled together in a corner, while Bai Xi sat alone in another. A cute little girl stepped out from among the children. Unlike the others, she didn't look scared. She slowly walked over to Bai Xi. "Hello, my name is Xia Xia." Bai Xi was silent. Xia Xia didn't mind. She talked to herself, knowing Bai Xi was listening.
"Aren't you scared?"
"No. I believe the police will come rescue us."
"They won't. It's been so many days already. They won't find you." Xia Xia fought back tears. "I miss my mom and dad. I want to go home."
"Don't be scared. I'm here."
"Do you like flowers?"
"I do."
"Then when we get out, I'll take you to see lots and lots of flowers." It seemed to be the most beautiful thing Bai Xi had ever said.
The flowers bloomed, right on time. Xia Xia, when will you come?
