On Wan Li's first day at the company, she met an angel with a kind heart.
Her handsome colleague, Ming Yishan, helped her out in so many ways. When other coworkers called her frumpy, Ming Yishan stood up for her. When her supervisor scolded her, he comforted her. During her time off, he even taught her how to improve her style. To Wan Li, he was an angel.
Wan Li was hardworking and diligent, but slow to pick up new things. Because of Ming Yishan, though, she learned to work up the courage to pursue someone.
"Yishan, could I ask you to go see a movie with me?"
He looked at her kindly and smiled as he turned her down. "I've been busy lately."
"Yishan, I made these chocolates for you."
He took them with a faint smile, his tone casual. "What should I do? I don't like chocolate."
At some point, Wan Li began to feel that Ming Yishan had grown distant. Thinking her pursuit was troubling him, she decided to tell him she would give up.
But in the break room, she overheard her boss and Ming Yishan chatting and laughing.
"Yishan, I heard you bet you'd win over the pretty new country girl in a month."
So that's the kind of person he was.

After Ming Yishan realized that his simple, slow-witted little Wan Li wouldn't talk to him anymore, life became much less interesting.
Over the next few months, Wan Li grew more competent at work, her style improved, and she gained more and more admirers.
Ming Yishan quit.
Wan Li earned her boss's trust and began accompanying him to all kinds of events, without noticing the rumors behind her back.
Until, at the end of an auction, her drunk boss cornered her in a narrow hallway and tried to make a move.
"Little Wan Li, wouldn't it be nice to stick with me and enjoy the good life? Then you wouldn't have to work so hard."
A mysterious tycoon who had just paid two hundred million to buy an authentic Claude Monet Water Lilies appeared. His handsome, sharply defined face was dark with anger.
"And you think you can call her that?"
