Mika, who goes by Aoki Mikako, is a Japanese con artist living in Britain. She loves extorting money from unscrupulous local tycoons.
Shuichi Akai is also a private detective living in Britain, but his clients are usually merchants, criminals, or even killers.
After British merchant JL is swindled out of a large sum by Mika, he hires Akai to track her down.
Akai follows Mika to Edo, Japan, where the two meet.
* The setting is Edo at the end of the shogunate, before the Meiji Restoration.
