A Survival Guide for the Disabled

I'm a "deaf-mute" patient.

But I can actually speak. I just can't hear anything, and over time I ended up acting like I couldn't speak either.

My name is Kawabata Takuya. At least, I think that's my name. It's been so long that I can't hear anyone saying it.

That is, until I became friends with a strange child.

The moment he touched me, I heard a wonderful cacophony.

*Important: The male lead isn't deaf or mute! His ability activates passively, which is why.

Kawabata Takuya, male, 24. (Dazai Osamu is 22 at this point.)

Ability [Pure Land]: Normally activates passively and clings to both ears. When used actively, it creates a silent space within a 10-meter radius. Any action he considers "fighting" is prohibited. He can expand the range of the ability by exhausting his spiritual or mental energy, and so on. (This may change.)

As a child, he met a particularly (mischievous) kid. Then, when he was sixteen, that kid ran away from home.

As a teenager, he picked up a fox and somehow ended up as a wage slave for the government, those sword-obsessed weirdos.

Kawabata Takuya: You think you can bully me because I can't hear?

As a young adult, he goes on a trip to Yokohama with his temporary guardian Natsume and a cat that looks like a pig (or is it a pig that looks like a cat?).

Then he spots the grown-up version of the brat who abandoned him and ran away from home.

Kawabata Takuya: Don't come near me. (Not really.)

The male lead's inner world is as active as an erupting volcano, but his face is completely expressionless.

Not speaking doesn't mean he can't speak. If he can't hear, he can just find No Longer Human. (What?)

*The pairing is most likely Dazai. There are lots of personal interpretations, drawing on real-life figures. (Like how his real name is Tsushima Shuji and his home is in Aomori...)

*Written in third person. The protagonist is incredibly lucky and obsessed with rhythm games. (No.) People around him knowing sign language is an authorial interpretation.
