On the night of her engagement, Jian Ling returned home alone.
The enormous room was utterly silent, like a carefully woven dream with no one in it.
Jian Ling awoke from the dream.
In a daze, she realized she was sleeping on the sofa. Song Yixing had returned at some point. Standing before her, the man spoke coldly, with a trace of displeasure in his voice. "Your face is dirty. Wash up before you sleep."
They were like two decorations forcibly placed together, constantly at odds and never in harmony.
And yet Song Yixing was still Song Yixing. In the eyes of outsiders, even as a husband, he was impossible to fault.
He never forgot gifts for the big holidays or the small ones. At an auction, he even paid a high price for two rough gemstones. Later, in an interview, he looked at the camera and said casually, "For my wife to practice with."
In public, they played the loving couple. In private, they treated each other with polite respect.
That was never what Jian Ling wanted.
After her disappointment, she left behind a divorce agreement. A white card lay on the black document folder. Look closely, and you could see traces of time on it.
It held the feelings of a young girl she had kept hidden for years.

"But now, it doesn't matter if you don't love me anymore." She looked at Song Yixing, as coldly as he had once looked at her. "Because I've decided to give up on you."
