Shenxu is a woman, but she's a little monk because her master is an old monk.
The old monk never chants sutras, but he's taught the little monk to chant them since childhood. He knows how to catch ghosts, but has never taught the little monk how. Then one day, an old Taoist recommends that the old monk send a disciple down the mountain to exorcise a ghost at the princess's residence.
The old monk calculates that this ghost is no ordinary one. None of his disciples' fates can suppress it. His gaze falls on the little monk, Shenxu, and he nods:
"You're the one!"
Shenxu: ...Are you seriously sending me down the mountain to annoy the ghost to death by chanting sutras at it???
The old monk shakes his head and smiles like an enlightened master. "It's a foreign ghost. You chant sutras in foreign languages every day, so maybe you can communicate with it!"
The little monk makes her way down the mountain in tears and meets the notoriously fearsome Grand Princess, Wei Bao.
Seeing the little monk with tears streaming down her face, Wei Bao leans in and whispers in her ear, "There, there. Don't cry. Big Sister will take care of you."
The little monk immediately starts crying even harder.
By the next morning, the little monk is hoarse and too exhausted to cry anymore.
