A Lucky, Lovely Wife in the 1960S

Story blurb: After dying, post-apocalyptic esper Yan Shu discovers that she has transmigrated into the body of an ugly young woman who has fled a famine. The original owner rescued Liu An'an, the story's heroine, while escaping the famine. Liu deliberately arranged for the original owner to save her, then broke one of her legs. With no chance to get it treated, the original owner was left permanently disabled. In the end, she failed to save her two nephews from being abducted, and died a miserable death. Xie Bingchen is a renowned engineer sent to the countryside to help build up the nation. Young, promising, and handsome, he gave up the chance to study abroad to protect the two young children his elder brother left behind. He came to a poor and remote village to help develop the country. As soon as he arrived, he bewitched all the young women and married women for miles around. They couldn't take their eyes off him, and fought to marry him, but none of them had a way to approach him. Eventually, just as the villagers think the ugly young woman will never marry, someone deliberately links Xie Bingchen and Yan Shu, two people whose status and background could hardly be more different. The villagers think the ugly young woman's matchmaking date is only going to humiliate her. Even the village beauty couldn't win him over, so why would he want a cripple like her? But to everyone's surprise, the match succeeds, shocking the entire village. Some say Engineer Xie has hired himself a nanny. Some say Engineer Xie has a physical problem, and the ugly young woman will be left a widow in all but name. Others say that Engineer Xie has put a flower in cow dung by marrying Yan Shu. They aren't suited to each other and are bound to fall apart sooner or later. But after the ugly young woman marries the handsome engineer, she grows more and more beautiful. Her dark skin turns fair, the freckles on her face disappear, and her skin becomes as tender as a peeled hard-boiled egg. Most importantly, the leg everyone thought was permanently disabled miraculously recovers. The young couple raise the children, build a fortune through hard work, and together she becomes the female director of the largest factory in the province. They also build the famous Taining Bridge, a soaring thoroughfare that astonishes the world. The once-ugly young woman is doted on by Engineer Xie and enjoys a marriage everyone envies. By then, many people have noticed that after Yan Shu married Xie Bingchen, his career flourished, his prospects soared, and their life got better by the day. Yan Shu thinks that Xie Bingchen has two children and she has two children of her own. She urgently needs somewhere to settle down and doesn't want to keep fleeing from famine. She assumes theirs will be a marriage of convenience: he wants peace and quiet, has a beloved in his heart, and simply needs someone to look after the children. He wouldn't be interested in her at all. Little does she know that this is exactly what Xie Bingchen wants. He has been plotting this for a long time, and at last he gets his wish.
