A small-town story
Synopsis:
When she was eighteen, a light rain fell just before winter.
After school, Wu Shuang had no umbrella. In the distance, she spotted a tall, slender man standing outside a dim little shop.
She ran beneath the eaves with her schoolbag over her head to shelter from the rain. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed his bulging veins and expensive designer suitcase.
He smoked and stared at his phone with an annoyed expression.
The rain fell harder. His phone was about to die, and the man couldn't help cursing as he looked up.
Raindrops pattered softly beside them.
Hugging her schoolbag, Wu Shuang watched him discreetly for a long while. From what he said, she gathered that someone at the station had swindled him. She couldn't help offering a warning and a bit of comfort: "You can't trust the people around here."
The man paused and raised his eyes to look at her. He scoffed, then drawled for no apparent reason, "So should I believe you or not?"
Wu Shuang looked at him calmly and said nothing more.

One day, some time later.
They became friends in the same circle at middle school.
She was his buddy's girlfriend.
It was the season of cloudy skies and drizzling rain.
Wu Shuang stood on the blue stone pavement, sharing a cup of milk tea with her boyfriend and smiling with carefree confidence.
Her features were striking.
The boys stood together in little groups.
A stray cat wandered over from the roadside. Someone kindly bought a sausage, broke off a piece, and fed it to the cat.
"Brother Rui, look. That kitten's pretty cute."
She quietly savored the sweetness on her lips and heard the man's lazy voice through the curtain of rain: "Stray cats bite. They deserve to be homeless."
Wu Shuang had nothing. All she had was a bewitching face, and that body was of no use to her. It only attracted the disgusting, lecherous stares of the men in the alley.
She refused to give in or accept her fate. She was determined to turn her lethal beauty into a weapon.
If she couldn't protect herself, she'd seduce a man who could.
So, as if by fate, she met Jing Rui.
