The Gentle Trap

Shen Yuwan falls for a man. The first time she sees him, he is taking a photo of an elderly couple, warm and kind. The second time, he's performing at a laid-back bar. His gaze is cool and his voice clear, while countless girls cheer below the stage. The third time, Shen Yuwan decides he's the one. - Shen Yuwan has bright eyes, a lovely smile, a slim waist, and long legs. She always ties her hair up gently with a paintbrush. She is admired by many eligible bachelors in Beijing's high society, but one day people discover that she's pursuing Jiang Xuyao. Jiang Xuyao's friends are green with envy, but he remains as indifferent as ever. His rejection cuts deep: "She's not my type." When people ask why, he gives a derisive snort. "Too sweet and soft. She seems boring." In Jiang Xuyao's eyes, no woman is perfect. Even a fairy would leave with two flaws if she met him. - No one approves of Shen Yuwan's open pursuit. They only feel sorry for a lovely girl who has set her sights on an icicle like Jiang Xuyao. Until one day, someone sees Jiang Xuyao drag a certain boring woman into an alley. He clenches his fist and slams it into the wall beside her ear, his voice low and remorseful: "Were all those things you said when you were pursuing me lies?" Shen Yuwan gently lowers his hand. "I really did want to be Teacher Jiang's apprentice." Everyone knows Jiang Xuyao's father, Jiang Songji, leads the Painting Association, and Shen Yuwan loves to paint. - After finding out he'd been fooled, Jiang Xuyao, who had always been restrained, gets drunk for the first time and swears never to see Shen Yuwan again. But the next day, he kicks open the studio door, covers Shen Yuwan's eyes, and angrily sends away the shirtless male model. Not long after, the Jiang family's only son, usually doted on by everyone, puts on a suit and a pair of gold-rimmed glasses.
