The Embroidered Guard

Everyone knows that Song Jiu, the former commander of the Imperial Brocade Guard, was stunningly beautiful, with eyes that seemed to brim with affection. In truth, he was never softhearted in his dealings. He cared only for the law. He was not only the most sought-after husband among the young ladies of Yedu, but also the man the civil and military officials feared most. In the eighteenth year of the Taixi era, Song Jiu and sixteen of his men died while pursuing a criminal. The trail of the eight million taels of silver that had gone missing from Yedu vanished without a trace, and every lead went cold. Yedu was in an uproar, and gloom hung over the entire Imperial Brocade Guard. The Fourth Prince was ordered to investigate the matter. The following year, the Song family sent a frail young woman to join the Imperial Brocade Guard. She was said to be a distant cousin of the former commander. The young woman looked remarkably like the dead former commander, every bit as beautiful, but their personalities were worlds apart. She spoke softly, walked close to the walls, and seemed easy to bully. The Fourth Prince declared, "She has the face of someone who could scare the civil and military officials into fainting, but the personality of a mouse, jumping at every little thing." - No one knew that in the dead of night, the young woman would shed her disguise. The pitiful, catlike eyes she wore by day would turn cold and sharp. She was none other than the "dead" former commander of the Imperial Brocade Guard. She had fought tooth and nail to survive. Her only wish in this life was to uncover the truth and clear the names of the soldiers who had died unjustly. Once comrades, they will walk together for the rest of their lives. - A story of enemies becoming lovers and supporting each other as they grow. * Entirely fictional setting * Thanks to Shushu and Teacher Mo for the cover!
